As spring is arriving, in some areas more rapidly than others, we recommend that you do some maintenance and checks to make sure you car is ready for the warm weather. Here are a few Spring time car tips:
• Check the tires – The tire pressure can fluctuate about 1 pound per square inch for every 10 degrees change in temperature.
• Rotate the tires – Every 5,000-10,000 miles your tires should be rotated, it can extend the life of your tires by reducing wear.
• Check the wiper blades – During the winter your wipers get hammered, clear away dirt, debris and salt spray. Ensure the blades are making full contact with the windshield and haven’t dried out.
• Change oil and filter – Most manufacturers recommend an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, as you are checking everything over, now may be a good time to do this.
• Change the air filter – Dust and debris are prevented from getting into the engine’s running parts, if this isn’t replaced it can mean less efficient use of gas and weaker engine performance.
• Check the belts and hoses – Your belts are more likely to break after a harsh winter. Do a visual inspection for wear and replace glazed or frayed belts or bulging hoses.
• Check the coolant level – Have your system flushed and refilled with fresh fluids at the interval specified in the vehicle owner’s manual. Always top off the system with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water to avoid altering the antifreeze level.
• Clean the interior – Salt and sand may have been tracked into the interior of the vehicle, this can damage floor mats and carpet. Vacuum updirt and debris from the floor and seats of your vehicle.
• Prepare the interior surfaces and upholstery for more sun exposure – A good leather protector can help avoid cracking on leather seats and look for a product that will help avoid fading cloth interiors.
